SHILLONG, Nov 18: The state’s top political parties seems to have become entangled in a battle of name-calling with the Trinamool Congress on Thursday terming the MDA as the “Meghalaya Disaster Alliance” and NPP state president WR Kharlukhi retaliating on Friday by naming the TMC as “Trying to Mislead Constituents”.
Kharlukhi said the TMC is a proxy party from Bengal and reiterated that the party is yet to be tested on the ground. He was assertive in stating that the NPP did not see the TMC as a formidable force in the Garo Hills region.
Asked about the NPP’s preparation for the elections, he said the party has finalised candidates for 58 constituencies.
“58 candidates have already been already confirmed and only two are left. We have been declaring the names of the candidates at each and every meeting,” Kharlukhi said.
Asked about the remaining two constituencies, the NPP president refused to give the details and said it would be known soon.
