SHILLONG, Nov 19: National People’s Party (NPP) state president, WR Kharlukhi has cast aspersions on BJP’s intention to field Tura MDC Bernard Marak, who was recently released on bail after making headlines in the state in the Rimpu Bagan case, in the Assembly elections next year.
“You all have seen the video, if Rimpu Bagan is for those things. I don’t know what type of MLA they are putting forward,” Kharlukhi said
When asked if the NPP is threatened by the candidature of Marak, who will most likely challenge Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in South Tura, Kharlukhi said if it was threatened, the NPP would not have decided to fight in the elections.
Asked about BJP’s war cry daring CM to contest from South Tura and not any other seat, Kharlukhi called the challengers ‘toothless tigers’, and said that he does not take them seriously.
It is worth noting that BJP vice president, Bernard Marak, was arrested earlier this year for allegedly running a brothel in his farmhouse Rimpu Bagan while several other cases too were slapped against him.
Many even dubbed the developments as political vendetta.
After being in jail for more than three months, Marak, however, secured bail and was released recently.
