Cabinet team to meet Amit Shah, demand probe by CBI or NIA

SHILLONG, Nov 22: The Meghalaya government will send a Cabinet delegation to New Delhi to apprise Union Home Minister Amit Shah of the firing incident and demand a probe by a central agency.
After a meeting of the Cabinet on Tuesday evening, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told reporters he would visit Mukroh village on Wednesday along with his Cabinet colleagues.
The Cabinet decided to submit a report to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the national capital and set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and a judicial commission under the Commission of inquiry Act 1952 to probe the incident.
“The Cabinet has decided that on the 24th of this month, a Cabinet delegation will meet the Union Home Minister and inform him of the firing incident that took place in Mukroh village. We will demand that an investigation is conducted by a central agency, either NIA or CBI,” Sangma said.
He said the delegation would meet the members of the NHRC and submit a report.
The CM said the Assam government suspended two officials involved in the incident and transferred the SP of West Karbi Anglong. It has also assured to cooperate with the demands and request put to the Centre by the Meghalaya government, he said, adding that Assam government tokk the steps based on the discussion.
