SHILLONG, Nov 25: The National Human Rights Commission has issued notices to the state governments of Assam and Meghalaya on the Mukroh firing incident and has asked authorities in both the states to table action-taken reports within four weeks.
The Commission directed its Registry to transmit the copy of complaint, filed by TMC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale, to the concerned authority calling for an action-taken report within four weeks.
The concerned authorities were also asked to intimate the Commission of any notice or order received by them from the State Human Rights Commission.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met NHRC Chairman Justice (retd) AK Mishra and apprised him of the killings.
During the meeting, he gave a detailed account of the firing incident that claimed six lives at Mukroh.
He told the Commission that the Mukroh incident was a clear violation of human rights and apprised them about the actions that have been taken like the central agency inquiry into the matter.
Sangma also sought the support of the NHRC for necessary action from their end while stressing on the need for proper sensitisation of forces deputed in sensitive border areas so that such incidents where precious lives are lost do not reoccur in any part of the country.
