Central officer attacked in city, rushed to GNRC

SHILLONG, Nov 25: Inspector of Customs and Central Excise Alok Kumar, who sustained grievous injuries after being brutally assaulted by miscreants at IGP around 6 pm on Thursday, was rushed to Guwahati Neurological Research Centre and Hospital on Friday. His condition is stated to be stable.
Kumar who hails from Sitamarhi in Bihar, was caught in the violence which erupted after the candlelight vigil organised by five pressure groups on Thursday. He was admitted to the ICU in Woodland Hospital on Thursday evening.
His hearing aid, gold chain, wallet and mobile phone were snatched by those who assaulted him.
Kumar, who was posted at Audit, CGST and Customs in Guwahati, had visited Shillong to attend a two-week training at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Nongrimbah, prior to his promotion as Superintendent.
He had gone to Police Bazar after the training and was assaulted while walking back to his guest house in Laban.
