TURA: Mass exodus of migrant labourers began in Tura on Saturday following Friday’s incident in which one labourer was lynched during a mob violence erupted after five migrant labourers allegedly molested a mentally challenged girl on Friday evening.
Thousands of labourers from plain belt areas of West Garo Hills engaged in different activities had to evacuate the place under police escort due to fear psychosis.
The labourers along with their families and babies were escorted by police to the Tura Bazar area near the Sadar Police Station. From there, they departed to their destinations in Tura Public Transport Service buses and trucks amid tight security.
Early Saturday morning thousands gathered at the Tura Police Station and other outposts and CRPF and BSF camps.
It is learnt that many families in Tura gave shelter to their labourers and even dropped them to the police station in spite of the curfew so that they could leave for their homes safely.
