Adelbert threatens to pull out of MDA

SHILLONG, Nov 27: Lone legislator from Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Adelbert Nongrum, on Sunday, threatened to withdraw support from the NPP-led MDA coalition government if the government fails to address the problems of people residing along the interstate border.
In a statement, Nongrum demanded of the state government to set up a police outpost at Mukroh as demanded by the locals.
According to him, the police outpost should be equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and manpower.
The KHNAM MLA also suggested that a clear instruction should be issued to to the police personnel stationed there that they must adopt a “zero tolerance” policy following in the footsteps of Mizoram police.
While demanding the immediate arrest of the Assam police personnel responsible for the firing which killed five residents of Mukroh village, he pitched for a ‘Border Protection Policy’.
It may be mentioned that five of Meghalaya’s residents recently lost their lives in Mukroh village in West Jaintia Hills during firing by “trigger-happy” Assam police personnel. Following the incident, multiple protests were organised by pressure groups in Shillong, some of them turning violent even.
