Guwahati: After spending more than two years in various jails of Assam, National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) chief Ranjan Daimary Sunday walked out of the Guwahati Central jail.

Daimary is one of the prime accused in the serial blasts that rocked four districts of Assam Oct 30, 2008 killing close to 100 civilians.

Officials said the outfit triggered nine synchronized explosions in Guwahati, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and on Barpeta Road the day.

The release of Daimary is expected to expedite the proposed talks between the NDFB and the Indian government.

“Now that I am released, I’ll take part in the proposed peace talks. I shall continue to work for the betterment of Bodo community for the rest of my life. I hope to get support from everyone in this regard,” Daimary told reporters outside the Guwahati Central Jail.

A Tada court and a court of the additional sessions judge’s granted bail to jailed NDFB chief in five cases last week, setting the stage for him to walk free.

While the Tada court granted an interim bail to Daimary for a period of six months, the session’s court gave him an absolute bail.

Daimary was earlier granted bail in eight other cases pending against him including the serial blasts.

Daimary was headed to his home in Udalguri district, said his counsel Manas Sarania, adding that the court had imposed conditions while allowing Daimary to get bail.

Theese include restrictions on his movement outside Assam.

The court also asked him to deposit his passport and driving license and asked him to attend the court whenever the case is taken up.

He was told not to involve himself in “anti-national activities”.

Daimary was arrested in Bangladesh in mid-2010 and handed over to Indian authorities.

He languished in different jails.

His bail petition was moved after he agreed to go for talks with the central government. (IANS)
