YMCAs from across India take part in city event

SHILLONG, Dec 2: The National Council of YMCAs of India, through its Department of Youth Empowerment, recently organised the National Leadership and Training Camp in the city.
Hosted by the Shillong YMCA, the three-day camp was attended by around 80 youths, and 32 delegates from different YMCAs from India.
The president of National Council of YMCAs, Rtd. Chief Justice of Bihar JB Koshy, who attended the event as the chief guest, who youths of their responsibilities of being leaders in their respective fields of specialisation.
He also reminded the youths of their integrity, dedication and hard work for a better India.
President of YMCA Shillong Dr P Lyngdoh, during the event, called for national integration of youths and to understand Northeast India and its people, land and culture from within.
According to a statement, leadership games and management games were also part of the training programme.
“Traditional songs and dances of Meghalaya performed by our local dance troupe enthralled the delegates. Jowai YMCA, Shangpung YMCA, Nongtalang and Mizoram YMCAs also presented their classic dances and numbers,” the statement said.
The delegates also visited Sohra and hiked to and from Shillong View Point through Lumparing.
“The delegates were introduced to local cuisine of jadoh, doh sniang nei iong etc. Certificates and mementos were distributed by the Board members of the Shillong YMCA to all participants,” the statement said.
