CS-level meet on border issue called off

 SHILLONG: The chief secretaries of Assam and Meghalaya have decided to meet in a few days to discuss the long-pending border dispute between the two neighbouring states, after a scheduled meeting on Monday had to be called off.

Assam Chief Secretary Naba Kumar Das and Director General of Police Jayanto N Choudhury, who were here in the city on Monday to discuss the boundary dispute, called off the meeting and rushed back to Guwahati. Earlier, the chief secretaries held discussion on the issue of joint cadres of Assam and Meghalaya.

Speaking to media person before returning to Guwahati, the Assam Chief Secretary asserted that they will meet soon to discuss the boundary dispute.

When asked about the status of the inter-state boundary issue especially when Meghalaya has submitted documents, he said both the states will negotiate the issue.

“We are examining the documents and we will have a meeting on that issue,” Das informed.

He also said that negotiations are continuing between the two states to solve the dispute amicably.

When asked why it was taking time to solve the dispute, Das said, “Border disputes take time to be solved.”

Moreover, the Assam Chief Secretary also said it took time for Assam to submit the documents to Meghalaya adding that both the state will discuss the issue in the next meeting.
