SHILLONG, Dec 6: Amid the turmoil in state over accusations against an IAS officer by TMC national leadership, the state Trinamool Congress (TMC) has said it is determined to go after misgovernance and corrupt practices of the government, be it at the Centre or state, even as it asserted that neither their national spokesperson Saket Gokhale nor the TMC is deterred by the arrest or threats to sue them.
This statement comes following the arrest of Gokhale by Gujarat Police and the threat from the state government to sue him for accusing an IAS officer of misusing USD 79.05 million or Rs 632 crore in the Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Project (MEIDP)
Stating that it is a strong connivance of the BJP leadership to nail down Saket Gokhale for being vocal and going against corruption, Opposition chief whip, George B Lyngdoh, said, “Yesterday Saket Gokhale was arrested by the Gujarat Police and simultaneously we hear from the Meghalaya government the threat to sue him”.
He claimed there is a strong sense of apprehension and fear in the government resulting in the attempt to nail and suppress any voice that tries to raise issues and concerns of the people.
Informing that all efforts are on to get Gokhale released soon through legal means, he said, “This does not deter him or the party to go against corrupt practices and issues that concern the people.”
