SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has decided to put on hold its proposed amendment of the ‘Assam (and Meghalaya) Autonomous District (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951’ till July 5 as it is felt that more time is needed to examine the amendment proposal.
Informing this here on Tuesday, the KHADC chief PN Syiem said, “The executive committee is yet to submit the corrigendum in the House and it will have to examine the amendment properly and the same will be sent to the governor for his consent before passing the bill.”
The proposed amendment was aimed at delimiting the council constituencies ahead of the Council’s elections slated next year.
Laitkhroh MDC Carmel Sohtun had earlier opposed the proposed move to do away with the Laitkhroh constituency since the Council has failed to take the views and opinions of the people including traditional heads and Syiem (Kings) on the matter.
Recently, the KHADC chief said that the executive committee would constitute a sub-committee to work on the proposed draft amendment besides asking the members of the House to submit their views and suggestions to the sub-committee.
