SHILLONG, Dec 8: The proposed second round of talks between Meghalaya and Assam to resolve the dispute in the remaining six areas will continue until such time the High Court of Meghalaya gives an order to pause it, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Thursday.
“Let us wait for the hearing. As of now, the talks will proceed,” he said.
Reacting to the High Court’s order on Thursday stopping physical demarcation or erection of boundary posts on the ground, he said, “Where is the pillar? In the first phase we only signed the MoU and we identified the places and areas.”
He said the details will be marked out by the Survey of India which has been entrusted to conduct a detailed survey jointly with the Assam and Meghalaya governments.
On the current status of the border talks, he said, “As far as Ri-Bhoi District is concerned we have just finished our first round of talk among ourselves. Assam has also notified the regional committees from their side.”
“We are discussing with the Syiem, Rangbah Shnong and other stakeholders of each village and asking them to submit more documents to the member secretaries of the three regional committees,” he added.
