Int’l Human Rights Day observed in Nongpoh

NONGPOH, Dec 11: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with the Ri-Bhoi district administration on Saturday observed International Human Rights Day at District Library Auditorium Hall, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi.
Thematised on ‘Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All’, the programme was attended by former Chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Justice (Retd) Aftab Hussain Saikia as the chief guest, Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya, MHRC Secretary T Lyngwa, students, teachers, government officials, et al.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Saikia said International Human Rights Day is observed every year on December 10 and this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Stressing on this year’s theme, he encouraged the gathering to endeavour for a successful life.
During the programme, students of Ri-Bhoi College and self-help group of Umling Block also performed songs and folk dances.
