Dimapur cops start nabbing extortionists, three held

KOHIMA: After closing the Check gates raised by unauthorised organisations, the Dimapur police arrested three people while they were stopping and collecting illegal taxes from trucks entering the state.

A press release issued by Dimapur Additional Superintendent of Police said they identified the two cadres and arrested them yesterday, however, managed to escape.

He said they were stopping the transport trucks coming from Assam after crossing the Newfield Check Gate and demanding illegal taxes from them.

On learning about their activities, Dimapur police swiftly reached the spot and caught the cadres red-handed.

However, one of the cadres managed to slip away when the police arrived.

A chase was given, but the accomplice could not be caught, police said.

On searching the apprehended cadres, cash amounting to Rs 4000, which were illegally collected from the trucks were recovered and seized from the possession of one of the cadre. A case has been registered against them, he said.

Dimapur police also arrested one cadre of NNC from City Tower area yesterday, while he was collecting illegal taxes from traders.

Three taxation slips of NNC with Rs 6550 of the illegally collected amount was recovered and seized from his possession.

On preliminary examination, he revealed that the tax collection information slips were handed over to him on Saturday. (UNI)
