SHILLONG: Noted lawyer WHD Syngkon was reappointed as the new Additional Advocate General (AAG) on Thursday in place of SP Mahanta.

Mahanta was removed from the post after a local court indicted him in a land-grab case.

The case was filed by an NRI, T N Bhattacharjee, alleging that Mahanta forged his signature to grab a 14,285 sq ft plot in Lower Lachumiere, a prime location here.

When contacted, Syngkon said he was thankful to the Government for reposing its faith and confidence on him again.

“I would give my best,” the newly appointed AAG said.

He however informed that his immediate goal would be the setting up of the fast track courts in all the district headquarters.

“I would take up the issue with the Home Minister Roshan Warjri. We would work on the modalities for setting of these fast tract courts,” Syngkon said.

Syngkon was earlier appointed as the AAG on two occasions.
