SHILLONG: The State Government has sought a special audit into the alleged misappropriation of Rs 1 crore by Meghalaya Non-Conventional and Rural Energy Development Agency (MNREDA) project director JE Rodborne

Rodborne had allegedly forged the signature of the MNREDA director Jopthiaw Lyngdoh to withdraw such a huge amount of money.

“The special audit is part and parcel of the departmental inquiry,” official sources said on Thursday.

According to sources, they would start framing of the charges against Rodborne once the departmental inquiry is completed.

It may be mentioned that the forgery and misappropriation of fund by the Project Director came to light after the department had ordered a preliminary inquiry into the matter.

Meanwhile, police have refused to divulge any details on their investigation into this matter.

“It would not be wise to discuss anything on the matter. We have in fact just started the investigation,” a senior police official said on Thursday.

Rodborne was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the MNREDA Director and was subsequently suspended from office. Weeks after the arrest, former MNREDA project director secured bail.

It may be mentioned that the Project Director had allegedly forged the signature of the MNREDA Director in relation to a project for setting up of 70 SLV stations across the State amounting to Rs 88.87 lakh.
