SHILLONG, Dec 15: Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai on Thursday promised implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Meghalaya if a full-fledged BJP government is installed in the state next year.
“Give us 31 MLAs for a full majority and we will give you whatever you want,” Shullai said when asked about the delay in implementing ILP and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution.
The maverick politician is known to make promises ahead of elections.
It may be recalled that during the Lok Sabha elections in April, 2019, Shullai had threatened to “kill himself” in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi rather than allowing the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in Meghalaya and other Northeastern states.
