SHILLONG, Dec 17: A total of 14 students from the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) have been selected to represent India in the Indo-Japan cultural exchange programme, which is slated for next year in Japan.
According to a statement, the Office of International Affairs (OIA), NEHU, also organised a felicitation programme for the selected students.
“In a nationwide search for eligible candidates, NEHU students could compete with the rest of the country and 14 of them were selected by an expert jury constituted by the inter-governmental body between Japan and India. With the paradigm shift in Japan with new Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his team, Northeast India was given a prominent place in this Annual Cultural Exchange Program,” a statement in this regard said.
NEHU Vice Chancellor Prof. PS Shukla, who felicitated the students, stated that a lot of initiatives, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are being taken to expose the youths, both educationally and culturally, on the global front.
The opportunity given to students of NEHU shall go a long way in attracting Japanese investment in North East India, he said.
He also contended that the NEHU can help bolster the Indo-Japan relationship with the help of its student ambassadors.
It may be mentioned that the OIA had acted as a coordinating body in the process of selection of students of NEHU from both Shillong and Tura Campuses.
Dean of School of Life Sciences Prof. Nirmalendu Saha, in his address, laid emphasis on the learning process, which the selected students would undergo during their visit to Japan.
