Cong, NPP leaders now in BJP fold

SHILONG, Dec 22: Congress leader Highlander Kharmalki and National People’s Party (NPP) leader Wossaroi Rani along with their supporters on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a programme here.
Speaking to media persons after welcoming the leaders and their supporters into the party, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie contended that many leaders are joining the party in view of its increasing strength in Meghalaya.
He also informed that more such enrolment drives will be held in Jaintia Hills, Shillong and Garo Hills during which former MLAs and MDCs will join the BJP.
Asserting that the BJP is united in Meghalaya, he said the party is the only hope for the people who are seeking overall development of the state.
Meanwhile, Kharmalki said there is no development in Mawryngkneng and expressed hope that the constituency will finally see development under the BJP.
It may be mentioned that the BJP, as part of its ongoing enrolment drive, plans to enrol around six lakh new members.
