Local youths avail skill training at Kongthong

SHILLONG, Dec 28: Youths from Kongthong, Khrang, Mawrah and Swer villages participated in a month-long training programme organised by the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) Shillong.
The training was held on the SCSP Entrepreneurship programme in Home Stay (Multi-Skilled Caretaker) scheme, between October 17 and November 11.
The programme saw the participation of 30 youths from the aforementioned villages.
The training programme was specifically sanctioned for Kongthong village but other villages of the area that had the potential in the tourism sector were also included.
Certificates were distributed to all the trainees who attended the programme on Wednesday in the presence of the Secretary of Dorbar Raid Kongthong, Stogent Lynrah, and secretary of Indigenous Agro Tourism Cooperative Federation Ltd Kongthong, Rothell Khongsit, besides Principal of IHM Shillong, Bala Kharshiing, and former principal of the institute, Vijay Kumar, among other faculties.
Kongthong Dorbar has expressed its gratefulness to IHM Shillong for introducing the training programme to the local youths from Khatarshnong village.
The village Dorbar also thanked the Union Tourism Ministry, through which the training programme was undertaken, and Rajya Sabha member Prof Rakesh Sinha, who has adopted Kongthong and is since working to develop the village and uplift the tourism in the area.
