SHILLONG, Jan 3: The ruling National People’s Party (NPP) will kick off its bid to retain power in Meghalaya during the regional conference cum public rally of the Khasi Hills region to be held in Polo Ground on January 12.
The party will hold similar regional conferences in Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills at a later date.
The regional conference in the city will be attended by leaders from various parts of the state in the presence of national president Conrad K Sangma and its two national vice presidents Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Sitting MLAs, sitting MDCs and prominent leaders of the NPP in Khasi Hills will attend the regional conference.
NPP sources on Tuesday said the party will spell out its achievement in the past five years during the regional conference. The sources said the party will also highlight the agendas which are yet to be accomplished.
Certain strategic points in the yet-to-be-announced party manifesto will also be outlined during the regional conference.
The NPP will find its strength bolstered in the next few days with three sitting MLAs — Hamletson Dohling (Mylliem), Jason Sawkmie Mawlong (Umsning) and Samlin Malngiang (Sohiong) — all set to resign on Wednesday before joining the ruling party.
Mawlong will officially joining the party on January 6 at Umsning while Dohling and Malngiang will follow suit the next day at Mylliem and Sohiong, respectively.
Other sitting MLAs who have already joined the NPP include former Congress legislators — Ampareen Lyngdoh, Kimfa Sidney Marbaniang and Mohendro Rapsang.
