SHILLONG: Chandra Mohan Jha Foundation has moved the Meghalaya High Court challenging recommendation of the outgoing Governor RS Mooshahary to dissolve the CMJ University.
Informing this here on Wednesday, SP Sharma, legal advisor of the Foundation, said that the High court admitted the petition.
Mooshahary recently had asked the state government to dissolve the controversial private varsity and hand over the investigation of its fraud to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Sharma pointed out that the governor has no authority to recommend for dissolution of the university even under the CMJ Act.
Mooshahary had pointed out that the University had indulged in a series of irregularities from October 17, 2010 and had functioned on the strength of a self-appointed Chancellor without the approval of the Visitor which is in gross violation of Section 14 (1) of the CMJ University Act, 2009.
Meanwhile, the university authorities have challenged the FIR lodged by Mooshahary on April 30.
The CID, investigating the alleged lapses of CMJ University, unearthed a number of irregularities in its functioning. It has arrested the varsity’s registrar, Mrinal Kanti Deb, deputy registrar Premlal Rai, university director Manjeet Kaur, and human resource manager Juban Kharpuri on charges of fraud and cheating. However, the CID sleuths have not been able to arrest varsity chancellor Chandra Mohan Jha as he has gone into hiding ever since Mooshahary exposed the irregularities of the varsity.
