NONGSTOIN, Jan 5: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Thursday said the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) can be successfully implemented within the timeframe with support and cooperation of stakeholders.
The Speaker said this after laying the foundation stone for the Greater Mairang Water Supply Scheme (GMWSS) under JJM during a programme organised by the PHE department at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall Pyndengumiong, Mairang.
In his address as the chief guest, Metbah expressed gratitude to PHE Minister Renikton L Tongkhar and officials of the PHE department for sanctioning the scheme, and appealed to the concerned stakeholders, including traditional heads, community leaders and citizens of Greater Mairang area, to actively support the department during the implementation of the scheme.
Highlighting the importance of water in everyday lives of one and all, the Speaker exhorted the gathering to make judicious use of water and water sources.
Stating that the implementation of JJM is time-bound, the Metbah also maintained that with the support and cooperation of concerned stakeholders, it can be implemented within the deadline of 2024.
It may be mentioned that the GMWSS, estimated to cost approximately Rs 118 crore, will benefit 4,611 households in 10 villages under Greater Mairang area, including Pyndengumiong A, Pyndengumiong B, Mairang Mission, Mairangbah, Lumsohkhlur, Mawlong, Sangshong, Madan Bynther, Umthied Bynther and Nongbah Bynther.
Others who will benefit from this scheme include educational institutions, wellness centres, anganwadi centres and community halls in Greater Mairang area.
Others who attended the programme include Commissioner & Secretary of PHE department SMA Razi, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw Pa’iem PM Syiemlieh, Eastern West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner W Nongsiej, among other officials, traditional heads and locals.
