SHILLONG, Jan 8: A 16-member team of the Election Commission of India (ECI) led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) Rajiv Kumar will be arriving in the city from Tripura on January 12, Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Frederick R Kharkongor told The Shillong Times on Sunday.
Kharkongor said the ECI team will hold a review meeting with the CEO, officials of the Election department, the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of all districts on the day of their arrival.
The ECI team will also hold a meeting with the chief secretary, the director-general of police and senior government officials on January 13 before travelling to Nagaland the next day.
Meanwhile, Kharkongor said that 30 companies of central armed parliamentary forces (CAPF) have already arrived in the state to assist in the conduct of the elections.
According to the CEO, the state has sought deployment of 119 companies of central armed police forces for the polls.
“We have sought deployment of 119 companies of central armed police forces as there are 782 vulnerable polling stations and 402 have been identified as critical,” Kharkongor added.
After returning to Delhi, the commission is expected to announce the election schedule for Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland, which are slated for February.
Unconfirmed reports said that the ECI is planning to hold the elections before the second week of February, as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has already announced its examination schedule for Class X and XII from February 15.
