SHILLONG, Jan 9: After Banteidor Lyngdoh, another politician has come up with claim that he was offered crores of rupees by political parties.
This time around, Congress candidate from Mylliem, Ronnie V Lyngdoh claimed that he has rejected offers from four to five political parties since December last year.
“The political parties approached me to join them and even offered crores of rupees. But I rejected their offers,” Lyngdoh said without mentioning who or which party made the offers.
He was addressing the Mylliem Assembly Youth Congress Convention held at Nongkseh football ground on Monday.
The guest speakers of the youth convention were Tata Institute of Social Sciences alumnus Robert Khongwir, Indian Institute Management (IIM) alumnus Manuel Badwar and senior advocate Erwin Sutnga.
In his address, Lyngdoh, who is also the local MDC, flagged the need to eradicate poverty and illiteracy. “People manage to bribe us with Rs 5,000 due to these two factors,” Lyngdoh said.
Maintaining that it is not politics that is dirty but the people dirtying politics, Lyngdoh called for dedicated youths to join politics.
“We can bring a positive change if good and educated people join mainstream politics,” the Congress candidate said.
