Tongkhar lays base for 13 projects in Mawkyrwat
MAWKYRWAT, Jan 13: Mawkyrwat MLA and PHE minister Renikton L. Tongkhar on Friday laid foundation stones for 13 projects at Mawkyrwat in West Khasi Hills, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner T. Lyngwa and other officials. The foundation stones were laid for Integrated Building Complex at Mawkyrwat C&RD Block for Rs 2.77 crore, 10 road projects under Public Works Department for Rs.11 crore and two other road projects under Border Areas Development Department for Rs.40 lakh. Addressing the gathering, Tongkhar lauded the efforts of the officials for the implementation of projects. He called forth for support and cooperation from the people so that the smooth implementation of the schemes is ensured. He also hoped that the people of Mawkyrwat will continue to support the government to ensure overall progress and development of this area. Meanwhile, Lyngwa expressed his happiness the laying of the base, while stating that the same would help in the implementation of MGNREGA and other developmental schemes.
Nongkynjang sub-centre to be upgraded to PHC
NONGSTOIN, Jan 13: Nongstoin MLA Macmillan Byrsat on Friday laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of Nongkynjang sub-centre to Primary Health Centre (PHC), a demand for which has been in place for 20 long years. The foundation stone-laying programme, which was held at Nongkynjang sub-centre, was attended by the District Medical & Health Officer, doctors, Health department officials, headman, locals of Lai Lyngdoh Area, among others. Addressing the gathering, Byrsat informed that a total of Rs 9.78 crore has been sanctioned for the upgrade of Nongkynjang sub-centre. Meanwhile, the headmen of Nongkynjang and Nongkhlaw villages have informed that the demand for the upgrade of Nongkynjang sub-centre has been in place for 20 years but owing to zero political pressure, the same could not be realised. They also extended their gratitude to the local MLA and expressed hope that the upcoming PHC will cater to the needs of the people of Lailyngdoh area.
