Madrasa Chatra Sanstha (AAMCS) has blocked the Assam-Agartala NH 44 for hours on Saturday demanding action against the BSF jawans who allegedly caused harm to Yakubnagar Madrasa of North Tripura on 22 June.

In a bid to prevent smuggling activities from across the border, BSF chased three youths belong to Muslim community, who allegedly took shelter in the Madrasa. But it turned into a communal issue.

Hundreds of students mostly from Assam gathered in front of Chouraibari Check Post, entry point of Tripura and blockaded the highway, which is considered the life line of state, for hours.

After receiving the information, the SDM (Dharmanagar) rushed to the spot and initiated discussions with the agitators. The SDM assured that a tripartite meeting to be held within next two days to find an amicable solution to the grievances of students belonging minority community. A group of people of Yakubnagar pitched battle with BSF jawans after security personnel prevented three youths from entering Indian soil from Bangladesh side.

Finding no other alternative, BSF jawans opened fire to disperse the agitated people though there was no casualty in the firing, official added. (UNI)
