Shillong, Jan 18: Five MLAs on Wednesday submitted their resignation to Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh at his chamber in the Assembly Secretariat here.
The five MLAs who have resigned include suspended Congress MLAs PT Sawkmie (Mawlai) and Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh), Trinamool Congress MLA Shitlang Pale (Sutnga-Saipung), HSPDP MLA and Cabinet Minister Renikton L Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat) and Nongkrem Independent MLA Lambor Malngiang.
The five will be formally inducted to the United Democratic Party (UDP) at the party office later in the day. The names of the five will featured in the third list of the UDP party candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls.
So far, 19 MLAs have resigned in the run up to the Assembly polls in the state.
Former KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum who recently joined the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) and the former TMC MLAs Marthon Sangma (Mendipathar) and Jimmy D Sangma (Tikrikilla) had resigned last week to shift to the NPP camp.
Three more MLAs – Hamletson Dohling, Jason S Mawlong (both from PDF) and Samlin Malngiang (HSPDP) had resigned to join the NPP.
The other sitting MLAs who have resigned include Benedic R Marak, Ferlin CA Sangma, Himalaya S Shangpliang, Samuel Sangma, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Mohendro Rapsang, Kimfa S Marbaniang and S G Esmatur Mominin.
