Shillong, Jan 18: Four of the five MLAs who had resigned from Meghalaya Assembly earlier in the day, formally joined the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the presence of their supporters during a function held at the party office here on Wednesday.
The four former MLAs were formally inducted into the party by UDP president, Metbah Lyngdoh. They include suspended Congress MLA Mayralborn Syiem (Nongpoh), Trinamool Congress MLA Shitlang Pale (Sutnga-Saipung), HSPDP MLA and Cabinet Minister Renikton L Tongkhar (Mawkyrwat) and Nongkrem Independent MLA, Lambor Malngiang.
Former Mawlai legislator, Process T. Sawkmie who had resigned will be formally inducted into the party at a later date.
The UDP president also announced that the five former sitting MLAs would be contesting from the party in the upcoming Assembly polls.
On the occasion, NPP JHADC MDC from Sutnga, Arbor Hima Darnei from Saipung joined the UDP.
