NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) on Tuesday announced a night road blockade in Ri Bhoi district in protest against the Government’s failure to heed to their demands.

RBYF general secretary LK Sawkmie informed The Shillong Times that they have called night road blockade commencing from 8pm of Thursday to 5am of Friday and again from 8pm of Friday to 5am of Saturday.

He also asserted that they will intensify their agitation if the government does not fulfill their demand at the earliest.

The RBYF had demanded reinstating the two casual employees Hundalin Warjri and Subita Lapang in the MUDA office at Byrnihat, withdrawal of the FIR against the RBYF members and an end to the manhunt launched by the police against the RBYF top brass.

The FIR was lodged after the RBYF on July 1 forcibly locked the MUDA office at Byrnihat.

Meanwhile, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akashdeep said that security has been beefed up in the entire district in view of the night road blockade call.

“We will take all security measures,” he added.

When asked if the FIR filed against the RBYF leaders would be withdrawn, he said that the law will take its own course and only the court can decide on the matter.

He, however, warned that action would be taken against anyone who takes the law into their own hands.
