SHILLONG, Jan 27: The UDP on Friday distanced itself from rumours going around in political circles of a possible post-poll tie-up with TMC, asserting that no understanding has been reached with any political party since the party is focused on getting an absolute majority.
“To the best of my knowledge there has been no understanding reached with any political party and we are going to the polls on our own,” UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar said.
The Opposition TMC had earlier stated that they are calling upon all likeminded political parties to weave a post-poll alliance in order to throw out the NPP and BJP.
“There has not been any approach and when we say ‘likeminded’ parties, how we can be likeminded with a party that has its roots in Bengal?” he questioned.
He asserted that the UDP’s focus was to get absolute majority on its own.
Asked if the UDP will continue to be a part of the NPP-BJP coalition post polls, he declined to respond saying the numbers will dictate after the polls.
