Cops seize fake currency worth 2.48 lakh in Umsning

NONGPOH, Feb 4: With elections just around the corner, Ri-Bhoi Police has seized Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) worth around Rs 2.48 lakh from one person hailing from Aizawl, Mizoram.
As per sources, it was informed that the police, based on credible information, had set up a naka check at Umsning junction on Friday evening.
It was at around 7:25 pm when the police intercepted one taxi and one scooty, the occupants of which were supposed to exchange the fake currency at Umsning junction.
Following the interception, a subsequent search was conducted by the police, who recovered five bundles of FICN notes worth Rs 2,48,500 from the bag of one Lalnungtluangi hailing from Durtlang, Aizawl, Mizoram.
Other occupants of the taxi and scooty were also apprehended by the police.
During the course of checking, four mobile phones and 3 ATM cards were also confiscated.
