Shillong, Feb 8: A total of 375 nominations papers out of 379 were found valid after scrutiny on Wednesday, officials said.
“Scrutiny process was conducted successfully in all 12 districts across 60 assembly constituencies of Meghalaya. Post scrutiny against 379 nominations filed, 375 nominations were found valid and four were found invalid,” CEO FR Kharkongor said.
He said the nomination papers of four candidates — three males and one female — were rejected as they were deemed as “dummy candidates”.
The candidates whose nominations were rejected included Ailad Bhoi from Jowai (NPP), Hambertus Nongtdu from Sutnga-Saipung (NPP), Violet Lyngdoh from Khliehriat (NPP) and Stonely Shylla from Khliehriat (UDP).
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 10.
As it stands, a total of 339 male and 36 female candidates are in the fray for the February 27 elections. Counting of votes will take place on March 2.
