‘Clueless’ Warr slammed for ignorance on Covid expenditure of Rs 816 crore

SHILLONG, Feb 8: The TMC state general secretary of the women’s wing, Noor Warjri on Wednesday slammed former DHS, now UDP candidate, Aman Warr for claiming to be clueless about the Covid-19 expenditures of more than Rs 800 crore.
“Does he think the people will believe a person who was holding the position of the DHS during the pandemic will not be aware of how the Covid-19 funds have been spent? What were you doing in office if you are clueless now?” she asked pointedly.
She stated that all the orders and bills of the Health Department were channelised through the Directorate of Health Services (MI). “He (Warr) is trying to project a clean image among the electorate of the constituency by shifting the blame on others ahead of the elections,” Warjri said.
Warr had earlier said the DHS (MI) had provided the Assembly an account of having spent Rs 248 crore to deal with the COVID-19 crisis. He advised reporters to ask those in charge now why the Covid-19 expenditure reached Rs 816 crore.
He added that the government placed everything pertaining to Covid-19 on the floor of the House and the MLAs could have questioned then.
Taking a dig at former PWD Chief Engineer, now NPP candidate, Ransom Sutnga, Warjri said he was rewarded with a ticket for the collapse of the dome of the new Assembly building. “He is spending so much because the dome gave him the money,” she said.
She did not even spare former IPS officer and BJP candidate Mariahom Kharkrang.
“The BJP distributed items to the people on my premises during the Covid-19 pandemic. The vehicles carrying these items had the ML-02 registration number, indicating the people in uniform were handling distribution,” Warjri said.
“That was clearly a case of misusing his (official) position,” she alleged.
The TMC leader also faulted the MDA government for poor implementation of various centrally-sponsored programmes and schemes in the state.
“We are at the bottom in service delivery but at the top when it comes to corruption. I think it is time for the people to elect young leaders with fresh ideas. The present politicians are only concerned about increasing their wealth,” she said.
