NONGSTOIN, Feb 12: Election fever in Nongstoin rose as political parties trained guns on one another during their campaigning for the February 27 Assembly polls in the state.
Four out of eight political parties competing from Nongstoin constituency held public meeting at the New Nongstoin playground here on Saturday.
In the opening session of the meeting, the VPP with its candidate from Nongstoin, Boby Kharshandi, informed the gathering that the lack of development in the constituency forced him to contest elections. He went on to assure the public that the VPP will emerge as a force to introduce policies to govern the state better.
The grand-old party, INC, followed next with Bormanding Nonglang, president of the district Congress committee taking the dais. He contended that the Congress is the only party which strove for the rights of the indigenous people of the state and believed in the freedom of all regions.
According to Nonglang, only Congress can trounce the NPP in the constituency and state. He claimed that the people want the Congress to return to power.
Trinamool candidate Macmillan Kharbani, on the other hand, assured the electorates of Nongstoin that only the TMC can bring back the confidence of the people of the state.
In a scathing attack on the MDA Government, he said all political parties within the MDA including the HSPDP, UDP, PDF and NPP are control by the BJP through NEDA. He claimed that people are fed up with the government.
NPP’s Nongstoin Block general secretary, Apsharailang Syiem, took a stand for the party by clarifying on the charges levelled by various political parties against the NPP-led MDA Government
He stated that the NPP is the only political party which united the Northeastern states.
He also highlighted the party’s effort in improving the economic conditions of farmers through different interventions.
