SHILLONG, Feb 15: NPP seems determined to keep BJP from forming the government in Meghalaya after March 2 to ensure that the “tribals in the state do not face any problems” at the hands of the former.
NPP candidate from Mylliem, Hamletson Dohling said his party’s objective was to defeat the BJP and he is going all out to ensure the same in his constituency.
“A tribal state like Meghalaya would face huge problems if BJP rules in Meghalaya as well as in the Centre. You cannot deny that BJP will rule in the Centre for some more time,” he said.
Dohling also made it clear that he and his party will not allow the imposition of Uniform Civil Code in Meghalaya as “our state is different”. “We cannot accept the imposition of Uniform Civil Code in Meghalaya,” he said.
