Shillong, Feb 16: Former North Shillong MLA who had resigned, Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday has given his statement before the Investigation Officer (IO) at Sadar police station in relation with the FIR had filed alleging misappropriation of funds for Covid-19 activities.
Talking to reporters after emerging from Sadar police station, Nongrum said that he has given his statement into the alleged misappropriation of funds of Covid-19 expenditure.
“I have reminded that I have filed this FIR as a responsible citizen and not in the capacity of a former MLA. I hope that the law will take its course of action,” the former North Shillong MLA said.
According to him, the reply of the Health Minister on the floor of the Assembly during the autumn session last year was misleading not only to him but to the people of the State.
“No one can misuse public money. My question as to why the amount of Rs 43 crore remains unaccounted. We would like to know what has happened to this fund and whether it has been misused,” Nongrum said.
He hopes that this inquiry will help to unveil the truth about the people who were responsible for this alleged misappropriation of funds.
Earlier, Nongrum had filed an FIR at Sadar Police Station here asking for an inquiry regarding the amount of Rs 43 crore, claimed to be unaccounted for out of the Rs 119 crore received as central grants-in-aid through National Health Mission for COVID-19 activities which had been flagged by RTI activist Disparsing Rani recently.
Nongrum alleged that there was an attempt to misuse the funds earmark by the Centre through the NHM by reminding that state health minister, James PK Sangma in his reply to a question he had raised during the Autumn Session of the State Assembly, had stated that Rs 76 crore was sanctioned by the central government fir COVID19 management.
