SHILLONG: In a move which could relieve the students from last-minute hassles, the State Government has adopted the provision of self-certification of documents like mark-sheets, birth certificates etc. for the purpose of admission in schools and colleges within the State.

According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, the provision also applies to candidates going for state sponsored seats in engineering, medical, veterinary and agriculture colleges.

“These documents may be attested by the applicants instead of a gazetted officer or by filing of affidavits,” the release stated adding that the original documents would have to be produced for verification at the final stage.

It was also informed that any candidate found falsely certifying the documents is liable to be criminally prosecuted in the court of law.
