Tura, Feb 18: Shahjahan Islam, one of the people named by the police in an FIR of assault, has claimed that he was not even in the scene when the entire episode took place and sought the removal of his name from the FIR.

As per the police complaint, on Feb 15, 8:17 PM, police received information that some TMC workers led by one Sofiqul Islam @Bhutto had allegedly assaulted some NPP workers. When a police team led by SDPO, Dadenggre rushed to the spot they found two injured persons who claimed that they had been assaulted by Sofiqul Islam.

In the FIR, Shahjahan was also named. However, Islam refuted the charges stating that he was at the Phulbari PS at about 7:35 PM to sign attendance related to another case. Thereafter he went to Phulbari and stayed there till about 11 PM.

There is video evidence of my presence in the PS’s CCTV. Someone has given my name intentionally in an effort to hurt my sentiments. I am shocked and wish for a complete investigation into the matter and why I was named despite me being elsewhere,” said Islam in a note to the media.
