State uses music to enthuse voters

SHILLONG, Feb 19: Music and Meghalaya are synonymous and utilizing this notion, the Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya is enthusing voters with an array of musical delight to come out and exercise their franchise.
Promoting voter’s education and awareness among its 21.75 lakh-strong electorates spread across all 12 districts, the office of the CEO is actively leveraging music to urge voters to come to their nearest polling stations on February 27.
Meghalaya’s first all-visually impaired band, ‘Light After Dark’, is on the job to champion the cause of electoral participation among differently-abled persons to ensure that no voter is left behind.
State election icons and a well-known band, Summersalt, besides assorted leading artists from both Khasi-Jaintia and Garo Hills regions are musically enthusing voters through the foot tapping music video anchored by the office of the CEO Meghalaya.
The CEO, FR Kharkongor, said that all efforts are on to ensure that home voting by citizens who are above 80 years of age and differently-abled persons is facilitated by polling teams, who are on the quest to realize a smooth voting process.
Talking about the “Mission 300” campaign , Kharkongor said through this intervention, five polling stations across 60 constituencies have been identified in a bid to improve voting turnout this time to reach 90%.
