Tura, Feb 20: Even as South West Garo Hills is gearing up for the General Elections in the three Assembly constituencies to be held on February 27 next, a two-member team of senior Special Observers deputed by ECI – Special General Observer, Yogendra Tripathi and Special Police Observer, Vivek Johri, arrived at Ampati on Monday and made a detailed review of the electoral preparations by the district machinery in the presence of the General Observer, Sanjeev Shrivastava, Police Observer, Amit Kumar Jain, District Election Officer, G. Kharmawphlang, District Police Chief Vikash Kumar and other officials at Ampati Circuit House.
The Special Observers also visited and inspected some of the polling stations located along the inter-state border with Assam.
The Special General Observer, while expressing his appreciation for the systematic presentation made by the district election team, said that the most important thing during election is for everyone to be “alert” at all times. On the two cases of MCC violation wherein government employees were found involved in campaigning for political parties, Tripathi asserted that there is no way a government servant can be politically involved in elections and strongly recommended stringent action so as to send a strong warning to other government servants. While reviewing the number polling stations where webcasting would be done, he advised the district election team that it would be a sensible thing to do as much webcasting as they can and not only is in those that are considered sensitive. He also stressed on ensuring proper solar backups in those polling stations where there is no power connectivity so as to avoid any glitch in the polling process.
On the other hand, the Special Police Observer while reviewing Law & Order situation and deployment of forces advised the district police to take a very prompt and mutual response to any incident or situation that may arise during the election.
