South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has, in view of the Assembly elections, directed all heavy vehicles, including boulder-exporting trucks and dumpers, plying within and through the district to Bangladesh to halt movement from 5 am to 10 pm on February 27, and from 5 am on March 2 to 5 am on March 3.
South West Khasi Hills District Magistrate T Lyngwa has prohibited the movement of heavy trucks on the Ranikor-Maheshkhola road from February 25 to February 27. According to a statement, the directive has been issued in a bid to ensure smooth movement of poll officials to their respective polling stations.
Unclaimed body
The Additional Director of Health Services (SS), Shillong Civil Hospital, has informed that one male patient, viz. Jiban Sharma (52), C/o Jowai, Iawmusiang, was admitted in the ICU, Bed No. 2 on Janurary 21. He, however, passed away on February 14. In this regard, all concerned have been asked to collect the body from the hospital morgue within three days, failing which the body will be sent for disposal.
