SHILLONG, Feb 25: East Khasi Hills District Election Officer Sibhi Chakravarty Sadhu has issued show cause notices to former Mawlai MLA Embhahlang Syiemlieh and Congress candidate from Mawlai Marbud Dkhar following complaints against them.
Earlier, VPP president Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit had lodged a complaint to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) FR Kharkongor against the former Mawlai MLA for making personal remarks against him.
On the other hand, a joint complaint was lodged with the CEO by Syiemlieh along with BL Nongbri and Sarita Lyngdoh against the Congress candidate.
Informing this, Sadhu said they are going to file an FIR if they don’t get an appropriate reply from the duo.
Assuring that police will investigate into the issue as per the procedure, the DEO said, “We will also see if there is any violation of Representation of People’s Act or other Acts which are in place. As per these provisions, we will take appropriate action against all these violations.”
Earlier, Kharkongor had asked the DEO to immediately initiate inquiry into the two complaints and issue show cause notices, if needed.
