Post-poll violence broke out in Shella of Meghalaya on Thursday. A video shows youth pelting stones while security persons tried to disperse the attackers using water canons.

Sources said violence marred the post-poll scenario in Sohra following a wrong announcement of the poll results in Shella constituency by a news channel.
Some of the videos which went viral , a group of crowd is seen pelting stones on a fire tender.
East Khasi Hills SP Dr Raghvendra Kumar MG said that one of the news channel  showed that  NPP had won the seat but apparently it was UDP which won the seat and when supporters went to SDO Sohra office, they found a different result.
“They became violent and  aggressive after which water cannon had to be used to disperse the crowd,” he said
However, the situation is under control now and as a precautionary measure, sources said.
The SP has rshed to the spot along with additional forces.
