SHILLONG: The Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives (AfSDI) will organize the third consecutive ‘Shillong Run – 2013’ a fund raising event as well as an initiative for creating awareness on the need to promote the welfare of the differently-abled and the vulnerable sections of the society particularly those residing in remote rural areas of the state on August 3.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Monday, AfSDI director Rev AT Sohtun said the idea behind the event is to bring people with disabilities to the mainstream.

According to Rev Sohtun, the first two editions of the Shillong Run in 2011 and 2012 were major successes and the fund that was raised enabled the agency to construct the school building for the Rev. Amirkha School for Disabled at Mawlai and Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School at Mairang.

The Shillong Run – 2013 would be organised at the Polo Parking Lot and around 1500 people including school children and the general public are expected to participate in the event.

The run will be flagged-off by Health Minister AL Hek. There will be two categories – senior (14 years and above) and junior (below 14 years). The registration fee for students will be Rs 50 while for others would be Rs 100.
