SHILLONG: The Megh-alaya People’s Front (MPF) on Monday written to Assembly Speaker Abu Taher Mondal demanding a special session of the Assembly.

“We have told the Speaker in the letter that there is an urgent need to hold a special Assembly session in view of the unabated influx of illegal foreigners and the deteriorating law and order situation in Garo Hills,” MPF spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said.

He said a special Assembly Session would allow the members to deliberate and discuss these two burning issues affecting the State.

The MPF spokesperson also said that a copy of the letter was also submitted to Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

Earlier on July 17, Mondal had recognised the Meghalaya People’s Front (MPF) as the main Opposition alliance.
