Country facing multiple threats: BSF IG

SILCHAR:The country was facing multiple threats both internal and external, said J C Pandey, Inspector General BSF, Mizoram and Cachar Frontier.

Addressing a Lead Intelligence Agency (LIA) directional level meeting, held with sister intelligence agencies and security forces deployed in the area of Barak Valley (Southern Assam) and Mizoram on Monday at Mashimpur near here, the headquarters of BSF’s Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, the IG said, ”The security scenario in our neighbourhood is also disturbed.”

”The threats to our borders vary from military to non-military and intelligences have to remain ready for all such eventualities,” he said.

”We shall share the responsibility in dealing with the threats in the form of movement of terrorists, insurgents, extremists, narcotics, fake currency notes, human trafficking, including that of women and children, arms and ammunition and growth of fundamentalism, which we have to focus upon,” said Mr Pandey.

In the meeting the IG welcomed all the delegates attending the meeting to review the security scenario prevailing in Barak Valley, Mizoram and impact of under ground activities from rest of Assam and adjoining states of Tripura and Meghalaya.

The BSF IG emphasised that under such circumstances the responsibility of intelligence had increased manifold and co-ordination and unified amongst the intelligence agencies and security forces required watertight compartment, the IG added. (UNI)
