SHILLONG: Almost five years after the State Government passed an Act according recognition to the Techno Global University, the Techno India Group is all set to open the University on 56 acres of land at Tynring in East Khasi Hills District at a whooping cost of Rs 1000 crore.

Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, National Manager of Techno India Group, Prasanta Gangopadhyay, informed that the Group has got land measuring around 56 acres in Tynring to set up a university to impart quality knowledge to the students of Meghalaya who, otherwise, have to travel to other parts of the country to seek admission in B.Tech courses.

The university currently will be functioning from its temporary campus at the Shillong Polytechnic, Mawlai.

“We plan to invest Rs 1000 crore in the university,” Gangopadhyay said.

While asserting that the University has the necessary documents in place, he informed that the admission process had been going on and classes would start from August.

It may be mentioned that the State Government had passed the Techno Global University Act in 2008 but unavailability of land had proved to be the deterrent in setting up of the University.

Gangopadhyay informed that the intake capacity of the university has been fixed at 720 and the University is taking admission in six streams — Electronics & Computer Engineering (ECE), Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) and Civil Engineering (CE) — under the B.Tech/BE course.

It may be noted here that the Techno Global University has been included in the list of institutes for admitting students in the B.Tech and Integrated Masters courses from the JEE Main by the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Meanwhile, Gangopadhyay rued the fact that a fake marksheet was issued to one Trupta Gupta in the name of Techno Global University, Shillong, and a fake website in the name of the University was also found floated.
Gangopadhyay clarified that the official website of the University is www.technoglobaluniversity.com while the fake website has the address www.technoglobaluniversity.org.  He also called upon the authorities concerned to look into the matter and unearth the perpetrators behind these illegal activities.
