Workshops on Physics & puppetry gets underway at NEHU
SHILLONG, March 10: A total of two workshops, viz. ‘Workshop on Innovative Experiments in Physics’ and ‘Workshop on Puppetry’ got underway in parallel sessions at Shillong Science Centre, NEHU Campus. Organised by the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment, Meghalaya under its ‘Popularisation of Science Programme’, the workshops will be held from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. “The workshop will be attended by Science Teachers, B Ed students, NGOs, MSW students and the Maths and Science Ambassadors of the state,” a statement here said. The inaugural programme here was attended by Dr MA Jyrwa, i/c Principal College of Teacher Education (PGT), Shillong, as the chief guest. It has also been informed that Dr BK Tyagi, scientist ‘F’ from Vigyan Prasar, New Delhi, and his team will lead the technical sessions during the three day-workshops. “The workshop on Innovative Experiments in Physics will equip the science teachers with different interesting teaching modules to make concepts, principles and theories in Physics clearer among students. The workshop on puppetry, on the other hand, will impart training on the art of making puppets, script writing and the use of its form in creating awareness among citizens of the state on many superstitious beliefs and prevalent social issues,” the statement said.
Project inaugurated in city
SHILLONG, March 10: Secretary of North Eastern Council (NEC), K Moses Chalai, on Friday inaugurated Digital Design Labs for Livelihood Generation, a project funded by North Eastern Council (NEC) with ACC Institute, Senapati, Manipur, for Rs five crore. The inaugural programme, which was organised at Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong, was attended by Economic Adviser (E&M), NEC, Sherry Lalthangzo; MD, AMTRON, Guwahati, S Sundar; Fr. Sagi Stephan of Don Bosco Technical School, Shillong; Director (S&T), NEC, Tanung Jamoh; ALIMCO officers and other senior officials of the NEC. Under the project, centres will be developed to provide training of use case deployment for technologies, viz. Graphic Designing and Animation with high-end softwares. “Later on, it will move towards 3D printing, 5G applications, digital designing of training/ instructional videos/3D Animations in different languages including local Northeastern languages,” a statement in this regard said. The NEC, along with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will also start a training programme this month, namely Animation 3D courses, for 100 youths of Northeast in the national capital. “Very soon, NEC along with the Ministry of DoNER and AMTRON will take up 3D Printing project in the 8 NER States, which would be a revolutionary move,” the statement said.
